School Programs

ARTS is an innovator in community-school cooperation, developing ways of using students’ own cultures as a positive force in their education.

Through ARTS, artists from Chinese, Latino, Black and other ethnic traditions are available to neighborhood schools to carry out classroom projects in cooperation with the teacher. ARTS’ projects are jointly designed for each class, whether kindergarten or junior high school, and are linked with standard curriculum areas. Projects meet twice a week and last from 12 to 20 sessions, culminating in a final product such as a stage performance, a schoolyard festival, or an exhibition of student work, attended by pupils, teachers, and parents.
